Selfish Ambition?

What do you consider selfish ambition?

Here is Galatians 5: 16-21 “So I say, live by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the sinful nature. For the sinful nature desires what is contrary to the Spirit, and the Spirit what is contrary to the sinful nature. They are in conflict with each other, so that you do not do what you want. But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under law. The acts of the sinful nature are obvious: sexual immorality, impurity and debauchery; idolatry and witchcraft; hatred, discord, jealousy, fits of rage, selfish ambition, dissensions, factions and envy; drunkenness, orgies, and the like. I warn you, as I did before, that those who live like this will not inherit the kingdom of God.”

As average simple Christian people, what are the selfish ambitions we are faced with from our sinful nature? I think the older I get the more selfish I become. Maybe it is just getting set in my ways, or not wanting to waste time or money on something I don’t want. Personally, I do not believe that is the selfish ambition this scripture refers to. I think it is more. In reading the whole book of Galatians, Paul writes it to a Christian church, so I consider it addressed to me, to us.

It is easy to define the selfish ambition of some Hollywood stars or non-Christian politicians who bend the law or down right cheat, but what would you consider the definition of the selfish ambition of the sin nature that God is referring to in this Scripture for just little ol‘ us? Any brave souls want to share their opinion?
